The announcement follows five years after the single was released. The record took the world by storm, collecting over 380 million views on YouTube, and is certified Platinum by the RIAA. Outside of the accolades, Masego is most impressed by the song’s impact and hopes others are inspired to find their own tune.

“I am very appreciative of what it has grown into. I approached the jam session, just like any other. We were just making art because we love music,” Masego told AfroTech exclusively. “I did not expect for it to have this impact but I am happy to take control of its narrative and remind people it is all about cultural exchange, musicians, and appreciating live instruments, freestyling, and being inspired by your environment.”

Now he’s taking his talents and venturing into the Non-Fungible Token (NFT) space, a decision that seems to be overdue. Masego shared his interest in the Web3 space began in 2019 after casual conversations with tech friends. What’s more, he has always been vigilant about the intersectionality of technology and music as it puts a spotlight on music enthusiasts.

“There is so much digital noise these days and there are so many roll-out marketing campaigns and things to look at, but I love that the Web3 space puts more attention on the super fans,” Masego said.

The Tadow Collection

For those hoping to fall in love with the track all over again, The Tadow Collection will drop March 24 at 6 p.m EST on the OneOf platform. Masego and FKJ revisited “Tadow” to create a new interpretation with the help of 3D motion NFTs and mellow electric beats.

According to information provided to AfroTech, The Tadow Collection will be available in four tiers of rarity: green, gold, platinum, and diamond. Fans should be on the lookout for the platinum tier as it will include a remix contest and provide access to WAV files of sounds in the NFT. In addition, there will be an opportunity to win signed instruments, a customized NFT created by Voidz, tickets to enjoy a future show, and more.

The collection is a reminder of a community that can be built through the Metaverse as musicians continue pushing artistic boundaries to curate experiences for their fans.

“I am excited for what culture could be. What could be more lasting than a moment,” Masego told AfroTech. “What excites me is that you can meet through bonding over a piece of artwork. So, I am excited about what conversations can be created from people that are experiencing this art.”

Masego continued: “I’m excited for who you’re gonna meet when you are interacting with this art piece or having this as a part of your collection. I am also excited for just raising appreciation for musicians and art.”
