Just in time for Black Maternal Health week, Carol’s Daughter will partner with the Mama Glow Foundation for the second year of its Love Delivered – an initiative launched by the renowned hair care company to provide more Black women with access to doula services.

Per PR Newswire, the program is designed to serve as support to Black birthing people and babies before, during, and after birth.

“As we celebrate Black Maternal Health Week, we center joy in the Black birthing experience,” said Mama Glow founder and CEO, Latham Thomas in an official press release.  “We celebrate the triumphs, our collective solutions, and our self-determination.  Birth is meant to be transcendent, and we all deserve to experience empowerment through birth. The doula grants made possible through the three-year $225,000 commitment from Carol’s Daughter, further the mission to support safe, healthy and joyful birth outcomes for Black families in need.”

Making A Difference

When it comes to Black people and birth, the difference in the mortality rates is massive. The CDC reports that Black birthing people are 3x more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes. It is also reported that 60% of those deaths are preventable.

For children, Black newborns are 3x more likely to die in comparison to white babies when treated by white doctors.

Love Delivered is on a mission to provide the community with access to resources and support at the times needed in the Black birthing process.

“Too many times Black birthing people are not heard during such a crucial moment in their lives. If something isn’t right, having an advocate or a doula can be lifesaving,” said Carol’s Daughter founder  Lisa Price. “My hope is that Black birthing people are heard and supported and that most of all, our lives are saved.”

Love Delivered

The Mama Glow Foundation and Carol’s Daughter are on a mission to help change the Black maternity narrative one doula at a time through Love Delivered. The program will provide Black birthing people with access to doula care as well as other resources.

Programming like “access to online resources and maternity experts for expectant and new families, community building events and forums for expectant and new families and their allies for sharing joyful, inspiring, birthing experiences, as well as Love Delivered self-care deliveries” are all a part of the initiative.

Currently eligible participants must reside in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami, NYC (Metro-Area), Miami, and Washington, D.C.
