According to a study, Black women are four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women.

In response, the Love Delivered Initiative will pledge $225,000 over the next three years to provide doula services for Black families and doula education grants for aspiring birth coaches. On a mission to save lives, the Love Delivered Initiative — an initiative created by Carol’s Daughter founder, Lisa Price, and Mama Glow Foundation founder and world-renowned doula, Latham Thomas — will pledge $225,000 over the next three years to provide doula services for Black families and doula education grants for aspiring birth coaches.

“Birth is meant to be a joyful, transcendent and empowering event. Everyone deserves to have access to safe, affordable, respectful and dignified care throughout the perinatal continuum.  Mama Glow doulas approach care from a trauma informed framework and can help to support families impacted by injustice and inequity, grounding them with tools for advocacy, healing, transformation and empowerment,” Thomas said, according to a press release.

The Grant Is Now Open

The grant will be paired with a Mama Glow — a trained doula prioritizing the needs of women and families at every stage along their childbearing journey — as per the company website.

“I was blessed to have my husband and dear friend serve as my birthing advocates. They recognized my needs and spoke to me AND up for me in so many ways,” stated Lisa Price, according to a press statement. “My hope is that with this grant program, more Black birthing people are heard and supported and most of all, lives are saved.”

The grant will be applicable for birthing people located in the following cities: NYC (Metro-Area), Miami, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C. As the initiative expands, it plans to reach other major cities.

The Initiative Builds On A Continued Mission

The Love Delivered Initiative is a part of a larger goal to educate 100 million people about Black maternal health and encourage over 10,000 people to become an advocate by participating in event activations, maternal health forums, webinars, and more, according to a press release.
