Slutty Vegan has put a legal dispute to rest.
As previously shared by AFROTECH, Slutty Vegan Founder and CEO Pinky Cole addressed claims that her company withheld wages from an employee.
“Since I was a kid, I have only operated with integrity. I don’t lie, I don’t steal and more importantly, I DON’T PLAY WITH PEOPLE’S MONEY,” Cole wrote in an Instagram post at the time. “Maybe it’s the Caribbean in me, but God won’t bless you when you operate in fraudulent spirit. This week, I was named in a lawsuit for one of my companies, Bar Vegan, alongside my partners, over alleged unpaid wages from one employee. Again, ALLEGED.”
She continued, “Up until this point, I was not familiar with this ordeal or the employee, because I don’t run day to day operations at Bar Vegan. The people who know me, know I ONLY operate in integrity, so this is a wicked narrative especially when this is nothing more than an allegation.”
Now, Slutty Vegan has reached a settlement in one of its lawsuits, 11 Alive reports. Three employees from Slutty Vegan’s Brooklyn, NY, location have received $10,000 each due to unpaid wages and bonuses. The award to the plaintiffs is “inclusive of reasonable attorney’s fees, cost and expenses” under the Fair Labor Standards Act, the outlet explains.
The lawsuit shared that the restaurant location’s general manager hadn’t received a quarterly bonus of $7,000 and overtime payment for duties outside of his role. Additionally, the assistant general manager allegedly didn’t receive her quarterly bonus of $4,000 and the certified trainer claimed his paychecks were “repeatedly miscalculated.”
While Slutty Vegan reached a settlement in the Brooklyn lawsuit, another lawsuit is still in motion. According to the outlet, lawyers for a former Bar Vegan employee “requested their second extension amid talks of ‘meaningful settlement discussions.’”
