Serena Williams retired from tennis, but she hasn’t let up on putting fuel to the fire of her ventures.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the businesswoman and investor has launched 926 Productions. The mission of Williams’ multimedia production company is to amplify women and diverse storytellers who also speak to a broader audience. What’s more, 926 Productions has a first-look TV deal at Amazon Studios.
Joining Williams in leading the company is Caroline Currier, who serves as president.
“With the launch of 926 Productions, we aim to elevate female and diverse voices through content that speaks to everyone,” Williams shared in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m so excited to begin this next chapter of my career alongside Caroline, a woman who understands the art of storytelling and is passionate about evolving the entertainment industry in new directions. I look forward to collaborating with her and developing unique projects that inspire audiences across all platforms.”
The company’s introduction comes after the success of the Oscar-nominated film “King Richard,” which Serena and her sister Venus Williams executive produced. After being involved in the inspiring biographical sports film on her father, Serena Williams is set to bring more profound stories to the entertainment industry with the help of Currier.
“I have long admired Serena not only as one of the greatest athletes of all time, but also as a cultural icon,” said Currier, who produced Kevin Hart’s Netflix limited series “True Story.” “She is a once-in-a-generation talent who transcends sport, and her commitment to excellence on and off the court is inspiring. As we bring our creative instincts together, I am thrilled to partner with Serena and build out a company that centers on championing impactful and entertaining stories yet to be told.”
The outlet notes that 926 Productions already has a line-up of projects underway including the soccer documentary “Copa 71.”
