50 Cent has become a force in television over the years with the empire he’s built on Starz. But, according to “Power” star Omari Hardwick, he never fully reaped the benefits of the success.
Omari Hardwick Reveals His “Power” Salary
Before there were any “Power” spin-offs, Hardwick — who played James “Ghost” St. Patrick — was the star of the original series. While his character was the blueprint for the franchise, the actor disclosed for the first time that he earned $150,000 per episode while on “The Pivot” podcast. After six successful seasons, Hardwick believes his salary didn’t measure up to him being “the face of the network” during the show’s run.
“I still haven’t made what I should have made. I still never made the money—no, the money, I never made what I should have made. Never,” Harwick told “The Pivot” podcast, according to Complex. “Period. It’s happening now, finally.”
Facing Financial Challenges
Continuing his transparency, he shared that he borrowed money from 50 Cent in the summers after the first and second seasons. According to Hardwick, the “Power” producer lent it to him out of love for his wife and children.
“He gave me $20,000 and the next summer he gave me $23,000. He might like them more than me. It was absolutely given in a way of, like, you know take care of the family bro, use that.”
The Actor Speaks On Paying 50 Cent Back
“I think he forever just really really respects the shit out of me for that, we just not taught that in our community. Barely do we pay anybody back. So once we’re hit up for money, and I am financially obviously stable at this point, once we’re hit up for money we don’t expect it back. … So for me to give it back to 50 with interest, I was just so proud to be able to do that. And it was early! He felt like, ‘Damn, you can’t be messed up, you need money!’”
