Kimberly Bryant is turning over a new leaf.
According to PR Newswire, the founder and former CEO of Black Girls Code (BGC) has officially announced that the legal dispute between herself and the board of the organization she founded in 2011 has ended.
Closing The BGC Chapter
“My journey has been one of resilience and unwavering commitment to truth and justice,” said Bryant, who was unexpectedly removed from her role in 2022.
She continued: “Through the challenges, I’ve discovered that obstacles are just opportunities in disguise. As we pave a path toward inclusivity and innovation, I’m more determined than ever to empower underrepresented voices and foster change. Together we’ll create a world where every entrepreneur, regardless of their background, can ascend to new heights.”
As previously reported by AFROTECH, after parting ways with BGC, legal action was taken against Bryant for allegedly “unlawfully hijacking” the organization’s website once she left her position.
New Beginnings
A part of Bryant’s new chapter includes Ascend Ventures, the venture capital firm the serial entrepreneur has launched to support and invest in startups led by underrepresented individuals.
“With a strong focus on diversity and inclusion, Ascend Ventures is poised to become a driving force for positive change in the tech and business world,” the press release stated.
Additionally, Bryant will invest in her hometown of Memphis, TN, by introducing the Black Innovation District, which is on a mission to foster creativity and innovation in her Memphis neighbors’ own backyards.
Beyond that, Bryant has plans to share her story through a memoir and will continue her commitment to Black women and girls through The Black Girl Movement, a new initiative she is spearheading in early 2024.
