If you visit the Twitter profile page of Hip-Hop rapper Future, you’ll be in for a surprise as the current image has been replaced with a non-fungible token (NFT) of a yawning gray-fur ape sporting a captain’s cap and a red robe.

For those wondering about the image displayed on his avi, Future is solidifying his allegiance to the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT by purchasing BAYC #4672 for 49 ETH ($200,000).

Despite only launching in April 2021, BAYC is now the second biggest NFT project just behind Cyrotopunks. The collection has already amassed over $1 billion in trading, Billboard previously reported.

Its collection boasting 10,000 unique tokens features apes with different variations of fur types, facial expressions, clothing, and accessories, which have risen to popularity. The digital collectibles backed by influencers and celebrities have sparked curiosity amongst users who are eager to tap in to see what the hype is all about. The BAYC collections’ popularity can also be attributed to its exclusive perks for its members, which include a stake in an NFT offered in exchange for a related cryptocurrency and the option to create a mutant serum that can be combined with their Bored Ape to increase its floor price up to $26,000, the CNET previously reported.

Future now joins an array of high-profile celebrities who have become invested in the world of NFTS. Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry also purchased a Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT in August 2021 for 55 ETH ($180,000), AfroTech previously reported.

Like Future, Curry changed his Twitter profile picture to a zombie-eyed, blue-fur ape to signal to the world that he had now become a member of one of the most renowned NFT collections. 

With members of this stature, BAYC founders Gordon Goner and Gargamel may have created a successful road map for NFT buyers that could prove to the world that cryptocurrencies are here to stay.
