Close to the end of this founder’s “Shark Tank” pitch, she was able to secure a deal.
As a former U.S. Air Force lieutenant, Haley McClain Hill launched Torch Warriorwear — military apparel brand. From the firsthand experience of being in the Air Force until 2021, the 28-year-old wanted to create clothing that met U.S. military standards but also was fitted for women’s bodies, according to Olean Times Herald.
Her clothing company works to replace “baggy, uncomfortable” T-shirts with one-piece bodysuits. The outlet notes that McClain Hill received approval from the Pentagon to start Torch Warriorwear and create the undergarments.
During McClain Hill’s pitch in front of the “Sharks,” she also shared that her grandmother, Sheila Kehoe — who is a 20-year Air Force veteran — was the one to inspire her to go for a Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) scholarship at Pennsylvania State University.
Ahead of McClain Hill’s “Shark Tank” appearance, Torch Warriorwear has been manufactured in Los Angeles, CA. What’s more, she completed orders from her home. While the other “Sharks” stepped out of a possible deal, Lori Greiner stepped up.
McClain Hill came seeking $150,000 for a 10% stake in Torch Warriorwear. However, Greiner wanted 25% of the company. While McClain Hill negotiated for 20%, the two were able to reach a deal of $150,000 for 22.5%.
“It was an incredible experience representing the women in the military and honoring their service,” McClain Hill told the Olean Times Herald. “I am extremely thankful for the support I received from my family and friends in Olean and will be forever grateful for the experience of being on ‘Shark Tank.’”
For the near future of Torch Warriorwear, McClain Hill wants police officers, firefighters, and EMTs to sport her gear too. Additionally, the company’s core mission is to empower “women warriors.”
“Our products are more than just apparel; they are a blend of technical advancement and style, crafted for comfort and durability,” the company’s website writes. “Designed by a warrior for warriors, our range redefines the essence of a modern-day warrior, echoing our belief in the strength and capability of women in the military.”
It continued, “TORCH’s philosophy is that what you wear significantly impacts how you feel and perform. Our designs are not just about aesthetics; they address the real challenges faced by women warriors daily. By wearing TORCH, we aim to elevate performance in even the smallest ways, making a profound difference in the lives of our customers.”
