Fans of the 1995 film “Clueless” are likely to fall in love with Google’s artificial intelligence (AI)-powered shopping experience, which is rooted in fresh, accurate data and a passion for fashion.
Google I/O 2025
Launched on May 20 at Google I/O 2025 in Silicon Valley, CA, AI Mode combines Gemini capabilities with Google’s Shopping Graph to help customers browse for inspiration, consider options, and narrow down products, according to a news release.
The Shopping Graph features over 50 billion constantly updated listings from global retailers and local shops, complete with reviews, prices, color options, and availability.
“We’re using AI to help people shop in ways that once seemed impossible,” Lilian Rincon, vice president of consumer shopping product at Google, told AFROTECH™ via email. “Whether you’re trying on millions of items of clothing with our try-on tech, finding exactly what you need in AI Mode, or using agentic checkout to jump on a great price.”
A new, experimental shopping experience, currently available in Search Labs, lets users virtually try on billions of apparel items by uploading a single photo. “Using cutting-edge image-generation technology, the system realistically simulates how clothing fits and drapes on different body types and materials — the first of its kind operating at this scale, according to the news release.
Shoppers can save looks, share them with friends, and, using the agentic checkout experience — which launches in the U.S. in the coming months — act quickly to purchase at their preferred price.
“AI Mode is our most powerful AI Search with more advanced reasoning and multimodality — as well as the ability to go deeper through follow-up questions and helpful links to the web,” the news release states.
At a time when online shopping is rapidly evolving and more consumers are turning to AI, adapting to tools like virtual try-on technology is key to companies staying ahead.
Priya Buening, vice president of U.S. e-commerce at Levi’s, emphasized the importance of meeting shoppers where they are and creating a seamless experience every step of the way.
“As Levi’s becomes a true denim lifestyle retailer, we’re always supportive of new ways to show fans how best to build their perfect outfits, from head to toe,” Buening told AFROTECH™ via email. “More and more people are shopping online, and it’s up to us — and innovative partners like Google — to evolve and perfect the online experience. This virtual try-on technology bridges that gap, making it easier to shop with confidence. Whether online or in-store, the future of shopping is all about personalization and delivering a seamless experience, and that’s what Google is delivering.”
Google VEO 3
Google is also expanding its AI offerings with Flow, a movie tool that lets creatives — whether they’re at the beginner or pro stage — turn text descriptions into high-quality cinematic clips and scenes.
Its Camera Controls lets users perfect motion, angles, and perspective, while Scenebuilder allows seamless editing and extends or transitions shots with smooth motion and consistent characters. Asset Management helps keep prompts and elements organized. With Flow TV, users can explore a growing library of Veo-generated clips, complete with the prompts and techniques used to create them.
