Ciara and Russell Wilson are the perfect depictions of what it looks like to create an empire for your household. The power couple has successfully conquered a plethora of ventures ranging from their own fragrance line, R&C The Fragrance Duo, to opening up a clothing company, The House of LR&C.

Building with one another through their shared serial entrepreneurship, the duo also makes it their duty to take time to support others with their Why Not You Foundation — a non-profit that aims to fight poverty, increase access to education, and empower youth. AfroTech previously shared that Ciara and Russell invested $1.75 million in funding to rebrand a Seattle charter school, as well as more recently, donated over $35,000 to Seattle students.

With the mission to further pour love into families, the Wilsons have released their new children’s book, “Why Not You?” — a title tied with their foundation — according to NBC.

The book is inspired by the couple’s own upbringing of learning to have a bright outlook on their lives. Now, they want children worldwide to tap into the same positivity.

In an interview with NBC, Russell shared: “We’ve been so excited to do this for so many reasons. Our parents used to say to us, ‘Why not you?’ It was a driving force question that my dad always used to ask me all the time…I think that’s the conscious, but also [the] subconscious question that we all have to ask ourselves no matter how old or young we are.”

Representation Matters

The book’s illustrations include a diverse range of shades and hair textures, which Ciara describes as “so important” to include.

“Our goal is to empower every child to have a ‘Why Not You?’ attitude and we want for every child to look at this book and see themselves in it,” she shared. “On the front [of the book] you see a mini Russ and a mini Ci. And our kids can look at this book and see themselves. Every kid should be able to dream big and if you have a ‘Why Not You?’ attitude, the sky’s the limit.”
