Southern rapper Bun B now has bragging rights that extend even beyond the music industry.
As AfroTech previously told you in July 2021, Bun B ventured into the restaurant business to open Trill Burgers, a pop-up hamburger shop in his home city of Houston, TX. Now, it’s been named the best burger in America.
The restaurant’s OG Trill Burger caught the attention of the judges on Good Morning America’s “United States of Burgers” competition. The staple menu item is made from 44 Farms beef, Trill Sauce, pickles, caramelized onions, and a Martin’s potato bun.
Statement From Bun B, According to Instagram:
“This morning was crazy watching the team battle it out on national television. And doing it live at Times Square! Seeing the judges enjoy the food and keeping us on our toes. Now it’s time to let the world get a taste of #TrillBurgers! When @BunB, @NickScurfield, and I spoke about creating a burger concept last year. We had no idea where this journey would take us. Wanting to bring something new to Houston. And excitement to the community,” Bun B wrote on Instagram.

Bun B Plans To Open A Permanent Brick-And-Mortar Location
The grand prize was $10,000 and a lifetime of bragging rights. Bun B had some steep competition, including Lucky’s Last Chance (Philadelphia), Babe’s Meat and Counter (Miami), and The Companion (Atlanta).
The judges included celebrity chef Gina Neely, former NFL star Tiki Barber, former NBA star Jalen Rose, WWE wrestler Titus O’Neil, and ABC’s own Sam Champion.
Ultimately, Trill Burgers earned three of the five votes to secure their victory. Now the Golden Burger Trophy will be coming to the city of Houston just ahead of Trill Burgers’ first anniversary.
In the future, Trill Burgers may scale to other parts of the country. However, for now, Bun B has his eyes on a permanent brick-and-mortar location, Paper City Magazine reports.
“It’s so surreal that it doesn’t make sense,” Bun B said, according to Paper City Magazine. “To be in Times Square having won the best burger in America live on Good Morning America, it’s not even in the realm of things that we would have imagined for this brand. We just wanted to put in hard work and be justified for what we did, and today we got the ultimate validation. I can’t wait to bring this burger to America.”
