If “International Players Anthem” by UGK has ever been in your song rotation, then you are very likely familiar with the talent and personality of Texas native Bun B.

Bun B entered the entertainment industry in 1987, and with his groupmate Pimp C, the two helped pioneer a significant era in rap music, particularly in the South. With a slew of hits like “One Day” and “Diamonds & Wood,” UGK’s impact has been referenced and appreciated by peers and emerging artists.

After a successful career in music, Bun B decided to highlight another skill set and enter the restaurant business. According to a previous AFROTECH™ report, the 51-year-old entered the food service industry in 2021, specializing in smash burgers, burgers with super-thin, crispy-edged patties.

“For years I’ve been fascinated with the culinary scene, trying to find the best entry point for me,” said the rapper in an Instagram post. “Today, I can say I’ve found it.”

Bun B’s restaurant Trill Burgers now has a brick-and-mortar location in Houston, TX. It offers a variety of menu items for burger lovers of every kind, including vegan options. The smash burger eatery has seen proven success since its opening.

In a separate AFROTECH™ report, Trill Burgers reportedly sold over 53,000 burgers in one month after opening its brick-and-mortar site. That is only one successful marker for Bum B and the company. He has his eyes on leveling up.

“My plan is to build this up to a high level of valuation, and when I get there, I’m going to sell this company,” Bun B shared on the “Earn Your Leisure” podcast. “That’s it. My job is to provide a product. People buy that product. And I build this brand up.”

This year, AFROTECH™ Conference attendees will have an up-close opportunity to learn directly from the rapper-turned-restauranteur on the main stage in Houston. While specific details regarding his main stage moment are being announced soon, Bun B will also make an appearance during the Blavity House Party Block Party presented by Lexus on Nov. 16.

The block party will be the perfect way to end a week of learning, growing, and development. Performers include rap and R&B legends Jagged Edge, Slim Thug, and Mike Jones. DJs Tay Powers, Brian Henry, Jae Murphy, and Bryan-Michael Cox will provide additional musical vibes.

Individuals who purchase the all-access ticket will have guaranteed entry into the block party, but all others must purchase their tickets separately.
