Did you know that there are Black billionaire wives? That’s right: these Black women are married to some of the richest men in the world. Interestingly, too, these Black women aren’t just married to Black billionaires — some are married to white ones. While many of the Black Billionaires in the United States are self-made, the story changes when the Black billionaire 2021 list is expanded to a global scale. Of the world’s Black billionaires, the ones based in Africa and Europe have access to resources — money, raw materials, labor — that their American counterparts do not have.

In May 2021, Forbes released its list of billionaires all over the world. And while it was impressive to see more than 2,700 men and women on the list — a jump of 660 from the previous year — only a small handful (less than 1 percent) of the billionaires on the list are Black. But what about their partners?

Black billionaire wives are an elite group of Black women that are worthy of respect all on their own. These are formidable, intelligent career women who worked very hard to be where they are today — and they are far from needing to be defined by the men in their lives. Let’s take a look at the Black billionaire wives and the men who love them. Put some respect on their names!

1. Titi Joyce Adenuga — Wife of Mike Adenuga

Chief Michael Adeniyi Agbolade Ishola Adenuga is the second-richest of the Black billionaires in 2021. He is Nigeria’s second-richest man, as well, and Forbes reports that he has an estimated net worth of $6.3 billion as of August 2021. He built his empire through oil and telecom investments, and his Globalcom is Nigeria’s third-largest telecom operator. Adenuga’s wife, Titi Joyce, is a stay-at-home wife and mother, though she graduated from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and Osun State.

2. Thelma Steward — Wife of David Steward

As the founder and chairman of IT provider World Wide Technology, Steward oversees a company that generates more than $12 billion a year in sales annually. He’s certainly come a long way from having his car repossessed in the company parking lot! According to Forbes, Steward has a net worth of $3.7 billion as of August 2021.

Steward’s wife, Thelma, has stood by him through thick and thin. They’ve been married for more than 40 years, and Thelma is involved in many philanthropic efforts. Their son, David L. Steward II, is the CEO of Polarity Ltd, and their daughter Kimberly is CEO of K Period Media.

3. Precious Moloi-Motsepe — Wife of Patrice Motsepe

South Africa native Patrice Motsepe became the first Black billionaire on the Forbes list back in 2008. He made most of his money through his company, African Rainbow Minerals. He’s since expanded to an investment firm called African Rainbow Capital, and he also owns shares in Sanlam, a financial services firm. Motsepe has an estimated net worth of $3.2 billion as of August 2021, according to Forbes.

Precious Moloi-Motsepe married Patrice Motsepe in 1989. She has made her mark in fashion, and her company hosted the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in South Africa. She is also the chancellor of the University at Cape Town.

4. Tsitsi Masiyiwa — Wife of Strive Masiyiwa

Considered Britain’s first Black billionaire, Strive Masiyiwa is on the Black billionaires of 2021 list thanks to his diverse investments in telecom, fintech, and power distribution. Forbes calls him the richest man in Zimbabwe, and he has a net worth of $1.7 billion as of August 2021.

According to Forbes, Tsitsi Masiyiwa has a charity called the Capernaum Trust that feeds more than 40,000 hungry children a year. The couple has six children.

5. Beyoncé — Wife of Jay-Z

Even though Hip-Hop has been around since the early 1980s, it took until 2019 for the genre to generate its first billionaire. That distinction went to Jay-Z, whose diverse investments in music, art, and cannabis — plus his Marcy Venture Partners capital investment firm — have earned him a net worth of $1.4 billion as of August 2021, according to Forbes.

If you don’t know who Beyoncé is, we don’t know what to tell you anymore.

6. Mellody Hobson-Lucas — Wife of George Lucas

As of August 2021, Forbes reports George Lucas has a net worth of $7 billion. And if you think that Lucas is stingy with his money, he’s quite the opposite. He’s very well invested in the world of philanthropy and his charitable family foundation reportedly has $1 billion in assets.

In 2006, he began dating Mellody Hobson of Ariel Capital Management. They got married in 2013 and have been together ever since. The Lucases share a daughter, who was conceived by a gestational carrier in 2013.
