In 1972, Thom Gatewood was captain of the University of Notre Dame’s football team, even earning himself a spot in the College Football Hall of Fame. Little did the athlete know that by 2020, his future grandson, AJ Dillon (also known as Quadzilla), would be playing professionally in the NFL, even breaking regularly breaking records in the league. Unfortunately, it was confirmed on Aug. 28 that the 26-year-old won’t be joining the Green Bay Packers on the field for the 2024 season due to a neck injury. On the bright side, this period of recovery will give Dillon more time at home with his wife, Gabrielle Toonen, and their son, Algiers Dillon III (or Trey), who shares a birthday with his dad.

After developing his skills at Lawrence Academy, a private boarding school in Groton, Massachusetts, the Baltimore-born running back was off to Boston College. Dillon became the team’s all-time rushing leader with 1,589, 1,108 and 1,685 yards in his three years respectively. As for touchdowns, the aspiring pro scored a total of 38 throughout his career. As a freshman, he was named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year. Though he had an ankle injury as a sophomore, Dillion still became the first Boston College player with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. It’s obvious he’s got talent, but what is AJ Dillon’s net worth?

By foregoing his senior year of post-secondary, Dillon entered the 2020 NFL Draft, catching the eye of the Green Bay Packers in the second round. He was No. 62 overall but played a limited role during his first season as he missed five games while on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The Boston College alum scored his first two touchdowns during week 16 and closed out his rookie year with 46 carries for 242 yards.

When he returned in 2021, AJ Dillon was named second-string running back, appearing in 17 games total and starting two. His stats improved from there, with 187 carries for 803 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns plus 34 receptions for 314 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. Dillon’s numbers remained the same in 2022, but in his fourth year in the NFL, the first-time father nabbed an impressive 613 rushing yards. His consistency and great attitude led the Packers to extend his contract in 2024, but now that he’s on the injured reserve, his season is over.
