On Working With The Disney Franchise

Although working with the Disney franchise, for most, would be a major win. At the time, working on the film presented its challenges leaving the sci-fi actress “bitter.”

“I left that production with a really bitter taste of Hollywood,” Saldana said about the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film, according to TIME. “It was big, it was excessive, it was egocentric.”

Zoe Saldana Stars In "Avatar" And "Star Trek"

Her hope was only temporarily diffused, and she found herself in back-to-back blockbusters in 2009 with “Star Trek” and “Avatar.” The blockbusters earned respectively $385.6 million, StarTrek reports, and $2.878 billion worldwide, according to Business Insider.

The film “Avatar” still holds the title of the highest-grossing movie of all time.

“Avatar’s” numbers are expected to climb as the film was re-released to jolt back the memories from the iconic film ahead of the anticipated sequel, which is set to release by the end of this year.

“I get to imagine the unimaginable. I’m always in awe of writers, directors and actors who are able to pull off a world we’ve never seen – I love working with people who let their imaginations go. Plus, you get to play characters who defy gravity. I like that. It makes me feel superhuman because, obviously, it’s been brought to my attention continuously since I was born that I’m not a conventional person because of the colour of my skin or my gender or my cultural background. So I think science fiction has given me the ability as an artist to be colourblind, and gender-blind, and to imagine and reinvent myself and be the chameleon actors are supposed to be,” Saldana said in an interview with The Daily Telegraph.

The Marvel Franchise

Saldana would go on to reinvent herself once again as she took on the role of Gamora in two of the five highest-grossing films of all time, thanks to the Marvel franchise.
