After a brief hiatus from the WNBA, Natasha Cloud is back in the game and she’s bringing some new footwear!

In 2020, Cloud left the game to focus her attention on fighting for social justice, and now the Washington Mystics guard is back sporting the Converse All Star BB EVO.

The “Petal to the Metal” PE is the brand’s first player’s editor with a WNBA player with a colorway that’s inspired by one of Cloud’s tattoos — a rose tattoo, which appears on the lateral side of each heel.

According to Converse, “Petal to the Metal” is also inspired by Cloud’s ability to “bloom bravely in all areas of her life.”

Illustrated by blushes of Chambray Blue, Pink Foam, and Spring Green, the colorway stands firm in the idea of a community coming together in order to inspire new beginnings.

“I wanted the shoe to signify looking to new horizons, collective growth, and regenerating oneself,” said Cloud in an official press release.

Cloud was named the 2020 Outsports Female Hero of the Year according to Outsports, for opting out of the league’s bubble to focus her attention and time on the nationwide fight for racial justice.

The 2019 WNBA champion did not step on the court during the 2020 season, but she did leave a huge mark on athlete activism, a social awakening that she traces back to 2016 when just one day after the league fined the New York Liberty, Indiana Fever, and Phoenix Mercury for sporting “Black Lives Matter” shirts, Cloud and her teammates wore the same attire to iterate their stance against police brutality.

“That was kind of the first moment I realized, oh, what we do has impact,” said Cloud in an interview with the Washington Post.

At the time, Cloud was Washington Mystic’s union representative.

The Converse All Star BB Evo first made its debut in July 2020 and features a Nike React drop-in midsole that offers low profile, responsive cushioning to complement its thin, wrap-cup outsole created to maximize traction.
