Technology continues to show just how it’s able to innovatively bring people together — even face-to-face when they’re on opposite sides of the country.

The latest episode of “The Oprah Conversation” that features the media mogul herself alongside former President Barack Obama and although they appear to be sitting in the same living room — the camera has our eyes playing tricks on us.

According to OprahMag.com, the “in-person” interview was actually conducted from opposite coasts with Oprah in her home in Santa Barbara and Obama in a studio located in Washington, D.C. Due to current social distancing measures that are in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the interview was arranged to be remote.

“Through the miracle of technology, we get to be face-to-face in the same room and we don’t have to wear a mask,” said Oprah in the opening of the episode.

As the two discuss how they’ve been managing their time during quarantine, viewers can see Obama’s background flicker between a green screen and a cozy living room. Obama even takes things further in a candid moment where he initiates a game of virtual footsie with Oprah.

“Nothing compares to being in person, but this was the next big thing,” Oprah tells OprahMag.com.

She shares her inspiration stemmed from the first episode of Drew Barrymore’s technologically advanced daytime talk show that was launched this year amid COVID-19. In the episode, Cameron Diaz appeared to be sitting in a chair next to Barrymore but once again it’s just technology playing tricks on us because she was actually in a studio in Los Angeles.
