NYC Mayor Eric Adams Calls Essential Workers 'Low-Skilled' & Lacking In 'Academic Skills'

Former police officer and newly-elected New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been in office for less than a week. But he’s already causing New Yorkers to shake their collective heads and ask themselves what they’ve really gotten into. The city’s second-ever Black mayor is making headlines because of his comments about essential workers. Eric Adams just said “Low skill workers like cooks, messengers and Dunkin’ Donuts employees don’t have the academic skills to sit in a corner office” pic.twitter.com/KaoY9MNZ8J — Achmat X (@AchmatX) January 4, 2022 In his misguided (at best) speech, Eric Adams referred to essential workers — which included shoe shiners, cooks, dishwashers, and “those who work at Dunkin’ Donuts” — as “low-skilled.” He went on to claim that these workers “don’t have the academic skills” to “sit in a corner office” (Yes, you read that right). The same workers who were getting applause and “thank you” banners at the beginning of the pandemic — who were essential in helping...

Diddy Expands Capital Prep Harlem's Campus For More Students In His Hometown To Excel

Diddy is pushing for bigger and better for Capital Prep Harlem — his New York City charter school. On Nov.11, the Harlem native announced that the charter school will be moving to the Church of All Saints and School building, ABC News reports. The new campus allows Capital Prep Harlem’s capacity to grow from 500 to 700 students from grades 6th through 12th. The school’s expansion through the relocation is set to open the door for even greater educational opportunities for Harlem students. “The kids of Harlem should have access to opportunity and a quality education and deserve to learn on a campus that reflects the level of excellence we aspire for them to achieve,” Diddy said in a statement. “This new campus for Capital Prep Harlem reflects my commitment to empowering as many children as I can and creating spaces for the next generation of leaders to thrive in every aspect of their lives.” For the 2022-2023 school year, students will be stepping on the new campus that features “40...

NBA All-Star Julius Randle Pledges To Donate $500 For Each 3-Pointer To Knicks Legend Earl Monroe's Charter School

New York Knicks’ Julius Randle is paying it forward to New York City students in the Bronx during this National Basketball Association (NBA) season. On Nov.9, Julius Randle visited the Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School — named after Knicks Hall of Famer Earl “The Pearl” Monroe — to announce that he will donate $500 to the charter high school’s mathematics and literacy program for every 3-pointer he makes, New York Post reports. “Me and my wife love giving back to kids and inspiring them and really there was no better person to team up with than Earl,” Randle said. “Teaming up with a Knicks legend like this, I just felt it was the perfect opportunity to help.” According to the outlet, the All-Star power forward had a career high of 160 3-pointers last season, which would have calculated to a total of $80,000 for the students. Randle has made 24 3s in the first 11 Knicks games this season. Along with Randle’s exciting news, the charter school has launched #30 For 3! — a...

Mayor Eric Adams Said He Wanted To Turn New York Into A Crypto Hub — Now, It May Be Happening

Mayor Eric Adams can officially cross his goal for New York City to have its own cryptocurrency off his list of goals. AfroTech previously shared that Adams had a vision of transforming New York City into a crypto hub, similar to Miami’s MiamiCoin. Now, Markets Insider reports that New York City is getting its own digital coin, NYCCoin. On Nov. 10, NYCCoin mining will be activated by CityCoins, a non-profit and open-source protocol that allows investors to support their cities by expanding their crypto treasury while earning for themselves, according to the outlet. Anyone can compete to mine NYCCoin and when digital coins are purchased or mined, 30 percent of its reward goes to the city. NYCCoin mining is officially ready to be activated! Once 20 miners interact with the contract, the mining process will activate. No mining will occur for 150 blocks (~24 hours). After that, all miners will be able to start mining NYCCoin! https://t.co/6Zf7u6nIBB — CityCoins (@mineCityCoins) November...
