Tesla CEO Elon Musk Is Helping Flint Students Get Laptops

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk is donating $423,600 to help Flint Community School seventh and eighth graders purchase laptops. The Musk Foundation is dedicated to renewable energy research and advocacy; human space exploration research and advocacy; science and engineering education; and pediatric research. Musk’s donation to the school district is not the first for the tech big-name. In October, Musk along with the Musk Foundation pledged $480,350 to help install ultraviolet (UV) water filtration systems throughout the 12 schools in the district. Flint Community Schools also received a $300,000 donation from the C.S. Mott Foundation to modify its middle school curriculum. “The Mott Foundation and the Musk Foundation have just been so amazing to the district,” Flint schools superintendent Derrick Lopez told MLive. The donation will help in part of the school’s restructuring plans to move middle schoolers to the former Flint Northern High, expected to occur during the 2019-2020 school year.
