Caleb Smith Makes History As The Nation's Youngest Glider Pilot At Age 16

Talk about soaring to new heights! Caleb Smith is not your average 16-year-old. The P.G. County, MD native just made history as the youngest Glider pilot in the United States per reports from WUSA-9. It’s a dream come true for the high school student who has had a dream to work in aviation ever since a birthday trip to the airport at the age of 10. It was after that discovery flight at Bowie Freeway Airport, Smith knew that this would be the lane for him and would even periodically check to see if the vision was still intact by flying periodically with a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) over the years.

Alphabet Owned Startup Wing Receives FAA Certification To Begin Commercial Deliveries

Most people don’t think of drones as a way to get things like coffee delivered to your door, but that may be changing soon. On Tuesday, Wing — a startup owned by Google’s parent company, Alphabet — announced it had become the first certified air carrier for drones in the United States. The company received Air Carrier Certification from the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This is a big milestone because without it Wing wouldn’t be able to pursue commercial deliveries. “This is an important step forward for the safe testing and integration of drones into our economy. Safety continues to be our Number One priority as this technology continues to develop and realize its full potential,” said U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Elaine L. Chao.
