Queen Latifah has entered into a new, exclusive deal with Audible.
In a press release announcement, it was revealed that the rap legend and star of CBS’s hit show “The Equalizer” has entered into a first-look deal with the audiobook streaming company. Through Flavor Unit — the production company she co-founded with longtime business partner Shakim Compere — the Queen will produce exclusive audio content for the platform.
The first bit of content up for proffer is called Streets, “Rhymes & Sugar: A Hip-Hop Memoir,” and it’s from entrepreneur and screenwriter Michael Elliot (“Brown Sugar,” “Just Wright,” “Like Mike”), which will be released on August 5, 2021. This short-form Audible Original will chronicle Elliot’s path from a homeless teenager on the streets of Philadelphia to a successful screenwriter. Also coming from Elliot is a scripted romantic comedy, “Technically Speaking,” about a single mom who falls for the founder of the big tech company she works for in Silicon Valley.
Forthcoming in the deal is a limited series where Queen Latifah looks to deliver the good news with “Unity in the Community” over the span of seven episodes. Each episode will be 30 minutes long and will highlight activists in various communities.
“We are so excited to collaborate with Audible on a collection of shows that will highlight different communities, community leaders, and friends of mine,” said Queen Latifah in the press release announcement. “A common thread within all of these shows will be to share stories that bring hope and entertainment to those at home who’s had a tough year.”
This deal with Queen Latifah is just the latest in a series of celebrity deals previously made by Audible. Other celebrities who have worked with the platform include Team Coco, Steph Curry’s Unanimous Media, Kevin Hart’s HartBeat Productions, Charlamagne tha God’s CTHA World Productions, Treefort Media, Topic Studios, The SpringHill Company, founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter, and Kenya Barris’ Khalabo Ink Society.
Additional titles from Flavor Unit and Audible as part of this deal will be forthcoming in the next few weeks. But congrats are in order for the Hip-Hop legend!
