After only six months of stepping away from the British royal family, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have entered the world of Hollywood to secure a multi-year deal with streaming giant Netflix under their new production company, Shadow and Act reports.

Through the production company — which has yet to be named — the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will produce “documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming,” per a report from Deadline.

According to Deadline, Markle and Harry’s recent move mirrors a similar plan of action former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama followed after leaving the White House.

Netflix is thrilled to have the pair join their team of creatives to help bring more family-focused content to the platform.

“Harry and Meghan have inspired millions of people all around the world with their authenticity, optimism and leadership,” said Ted Sarandos, co-CEO and Chief Content Officer of Netflix, in a statement. “We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home – and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere.”

Markle and Harry also echoed this sentiment in a statement they released:

“Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection. Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope. As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens. We are pleased to work with Ted and the team at Netflix whose unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action.”

The New York Times reports that Markle — a former actress known for her role in “Suits” — has no plans to return to scripted on-camera work anytime soon, according to her representative, but could appear alongside Harry for one of their upcoming unscripted projects in development.
