Michael Jordan’s name could soon be attached to yet another achievement.
Sotheby’s has added the original Air Jordan 13 “Bred” worn by Jordan to its Victoriam Parts I and II online auction. The pair was worn by the Chicago Bulls legend during a match against the Utah Jazz at Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals.
The auction house said Jordan gave the shoes to a ballboy who was in charge of the visitor’s locker room at the opposing team’s facility. They were also signed by Jordan at the toebox.
The pair of “Bred” Air Jordan 13 is projected to sell from anywhere between $2 million and $4 million. Sotheby’s believes the Air Jordan 13 “Bred” will shatter records and become the highest-selling pair of sneakers at auction. For those curious, the current record is held by, to no surprise, the original Nike Air Ship shoes worn by Michael Jordan in 1984. The pair sold for $1.47 million, as AfroTech previously mentioned.
“To present such a groundbreaking and important pair of sneakers at this special auction in Las Vegas further solidifies the strength and broad reach of the sneaker collecting community,” Brahm Wachter, Head of Sotheby’s Streetwear and Modern Collectables, said at the time. “This record-breaking result for the Jordan Nike Air Ships affirms the place of Michael Jordan and the Air Jordan franchise at the pinnacle of the sneaker market. Since launching sneaker sales at Sotheby’s in 2019, we’ve seen time and again the ceiling for sneakers continue to be pushed, and we are excited about all the potential ahead of us.”
The “Bred” Air Jordan 13 will be available to bidders from April 3 until April 11 only at Sothebys.com. The sneakers will also be on display at
Sotheby’s New York.
