Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut is quite legendary.

Exceeding Expectations

According to Variety, “Creed III” exceeded box office expectations both domestically and internationally, already bringing in more than $100 million globally — all of this is within its first weekend.

What’s more, the latest installment of the “Creed” franchise brought in $58.7 million in North America and $41.8 million overseas with an initial budget of $75 million — the most expensive of the film’s trilogy.

Historic Ticket Sales

At this time, ticket sales for “Creed III” overseas are already 109% more than the first film, which was released in 2015, and 25% ahead of the 2018 sequel. The film earned a total of $100.5 million.

Michael B. Jordan's Directorial Debut

Not only did Jordan achieve his filmmaking debut, but he returned as the star of the film, Adonis Creed, the son of boxing legend Apollo Creed. The film “Creed III” follows Adonis as he works to find a balance between his home and work lives… that is until his childhood friend and former boxing prodigy, portrayed by Jonathan Majors, returns after an extended prison bid.

“…You know when you listen to the radio and a song comes on and you go… You just drive along and you look at the radio like it’s doing something… that happens in the script for me,” Majors told Trey Mangum.

Much like the “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” star, other people have reacted positively to the new installment of the film, particularly applauding Jordan’s filmmaking debut.

In fact, Associated Press critic Lindsey Bahr called “Creed III” “a promising debut for the 36-year-old, who shows here that he’ll never let his own star ego get in the way of a film.”

For Jordan, this is another huge moment in his career journey.

“This is an evolution for me… as your palate evolves, you want to do more – you want to contribute in other ways – and for me, directing was one of those,” Jordan told Sportsnet. “It’s a very personal project – a personal story – and to be able to just oversee all the nooks and crannies and every little detail that’s going into it, it felt great.”
