LeBron James has really placed his stake in the metaverse!

Boardroom reports that the Lakers superstar has officially filed five new trademarks, which could signal that his plans to immerse his brand into the metaverse are on the horizon. Per the reports, all filings were listed with the help of Troutman Pepper law firm’s Howard Shire and confirm that James is indeed looking to secure trademarks for various downloadable digital assets, including non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

What Does This Mean?

As previously reported by AfroTech, James filed applications for trademarks surrounding his name and likeness for downloadable digital assets which include digitable collectibles, digital tokens, and NFTs which also include virtual goods.

“He may try to sell branded meta merch like ‘footwear, clothing, swimwear, headwear, bags, backpacks, sports equipment, sporting goods, toys, home furnishings, posters, trading cards, headphones, phones, video games, watches, jewelry, accessories, and home decor,’” read the report.

The Latest

Not only do the filings serve as a notice that he’s looking to shake things up in the digital space in the traditional sense, but he will also do so from a sports perspective as well.

The latest filings showcase the fact that James is indeed building a whole universe within the metaverse by way of “virtual basketball courts, gyms, and recreational facilities for playing sports in the metaverse and virtual worlds.”

Filings also note that the Ohio native will also have an online marketplace that is home to buyers and sellers of downloadable digital products authenticated specifically by NFTs.

From sports to television and everything in between, James is a hot commodity not only to the culture but to the entire world so it’s only right that he is in go-mode to bring his talents to the virtual world.

It is now only a matter of time before LeBron James becomes the face of various products out in the ever-evolving metaverse, this could be the beginning of a whole new world (literally) for the mogul.
