A leading plant-based brand backed by Jay-Z has hit the next level.
On May 8, Misha’s, a dairy-alternative company, announced that its products are on Walmart’s shelves — marking its debut of national distribution in retail — according to a press release shared with AfroTech.
As of this writing, the non-dairy cheese can now be found in California, Utah, Nevada, Washington, and Texas.

“Here at Misha’s, we live and breathe our brand. Our team has worked tirelessly to develop and refine our products,” Aaron Bullock, co-founder and CEO of Misha’s, shared in the press statement. “As a purpose-driven and community-focused company on a mission to produce the best plant-based cheese for consumers, we are proud to partner with Walmart, which has been an unrelenting supporter of us, helping to bring Misha’s to the larger community.”
The variety of cheese flavors includes French Connection, Smoked Cheddar, Sari, and Black Truffle, which will all be sold year-round at Walmart, the press release notes. Initially, Misha’s was available for purchase in natural and specialty grocery stores in the Pacific Northwest, Rocky Mountains, Pacific Southwest, Texas, and Hawaii.
Known as the “Best Dairy-Free Cheese on the Market,” Misha’s was founded by Bullock and Chef Ian Martin and started operating in 2018.
As previously reported by AfroTech, the Black-owned company received $3 million in funding back in 2021. Jay-Z’s Marcy Venture Partners (MVP), Chris Paul, and branding firm Lisa Shamus & Partners were among the investors in the seed funding round.
“The mission of Misha’s directly aligns with our values,” said MVP co-founder Jay Brown in a press release at the time. “When we first discovered Misha’s we found some immediate synergies. We embrace companies that value sustainability, empowerment, inclusivity, accessibility, convenience, health and wellness, and personal expression.”
The plant-based dairy market is estimated to reach nearly $45 billion by 2027.
