Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine Partner With Atlanta Public Schools For A New 'Learning Experience Where Technology Meets Design And Entrepreneurship'

11 Alive reports the Iovine and Young Center has joined forces with Atlanta Public Schools to launch a new learning center at Frederick Douglass High School in August 2024.

The program is set to allow students to tap into innovation by creating their own ideas and “explore diverse disciplines, businesses, and industries to bring solutions to the problems surrounding these areas.” 

“We want to give the next generation of students access to a proven, revolutionary learning experience where technology meets design and entrepreneurship,” Iovine shared in a statement, per 11 Alive. “This will not only prepare them for the jobs of today but equip them to reimagine and shape the jobs, technologies, and creative enterprises of the future. We are thrilled with our results in higher ed and the Los Angeles high school, and hope for similar success with Atlanta Public Schools.” 

The program will kick off by being offered to students in Frederick Douglass High School’s ninth grade STEAM Academy, the outlet details. Then, by the 2027-2028 school year, it aims to open its doors to all high school grade levels. Overall, the goal is to prepare students for their future academic journeys and careers.

Future engineers, designers, entrepreneurs and innovators walk these halls daily,” said Frederick Douglass High School Principal Forrestella Taylor. “In order to foster their creative energy, we must change our approaches to learning to ensure we are meeting the diverse needs of our students. Integrating the Iovine and Young Center at Frederick Douglass High School supports our ability to teach students how to design their thinking, brings student ideas to life, and further prepares our students for competitive careers that may not even exist yet.”

As aforementioned by Iovine, he and Dr. Dre have also supported the educational system in Los Angeles, CA, as well.

The duo teamed up with adidas and PENSOLE Design Academy to launch an innovative school program in Los Angeles County in 2022, as AFROTECH previously told you. In addition, they announced plans to open a magnet school, Regional High School #1, that same year.
