Actor LaKeith Stanfield spent a bag when he received his first big payday and went broke in the process.

While speaking on UNINTERRUPTED’s “The Shop,” Stanfield reflected on his first big paycheck, which amounted to $130,000. He was just 20 years old at the time.

“I hadn’t seen that kind of money before,” he explained on the show.

At the top of Stanfield’s radar was to spend his new earnings on his dream car. He impulsively walked into the dealership with a bundle of cash to secure the vehicle.

“It was like this car that I really wanted and that was the only thing that was on my mind. ‘I have to get this car,'” Stanfield explained. “I didn’t have credit. I didn’t have anything. I walked into the dealership with a duffel bag full of money and just set it on the counter, like ‘Here it is, an exact amount for how much the car costs.'”

On paper, life appeared to be good for that moment in time. However, when reality hit, he was in a financial pickle, uncertain about how to pay his rent.

“I drove off the lot and I was broke,” Stanfield revealed.

“So, I had my car and of course learned the value in learning how to spend and use your money because then I’m struggling for my rent the next week and trying to figure it out,” he continued. “I was like, ‘This has to be backwards.’ But if I had someone that was a mentor, someone to tell me, someone to just reach out and say, ‘Hey, that’s not how you spend your money,’ that would have been very, very helpful.”

As aforementioned, Stanfield has learned from his financial blunder and is seemingly doing better today.

Per Celebrity Net Worth, it’s estimated that LaKeith Stanfield has a $4 million net worth. He’s accumulated his wealth from his career as an actor, which includes appearances in “Selma,” “Get Out,” “Knives Out” and “Atlanta.”
