This week, Issa Rae’s audio-everywhere company Raedio announced that it has joined forces with award-winning podcast duo, The Read, to bring a historic, first-of-its-kind record deal to life for an upcoming original comedy album.
Shadow and Act confirmed the news with the company, which revealed plans to release the new full-length project — executive produced by Raedio president Benoni Tagoe, Rae, The Read’s (Kid Fury and Crissle) and talent manager Alexandra Rago — featuring both commentary on historic pop culture moments from The Read along with original music from today’s most prolific artists.
For nearly a decade, entertainment and podcast personalities Kid Fury and Crissle, formally and jointly known as The Read, have amassed a huge following of listeners and supporters through their unfiltered opinions that have taken the industry by storm.
As one of the more prominent players amid the podcast era, The Read has made a huge impact in the way that audiences consume and resonate with content.
“I have been a fan of Crissle and Kid Fury for almost a decade now and The Read has been my weekly comfort food,” Issa Rae shared in a statement. “I can’t wait for everyone to experience their brilliant comedic commentary in such a specially-curated, timeless format.”
In response to the ground-breaking announcement, Crissle tweeted out her gratitude to Raedio for the podcast’s new venture saying, “Thank youuuu @IssaRae and the entire team over at @TheRaedio and thank you everyone for your support over the past eight years. What a life.”
Since launching in 2019, Raedio has been viewed as both a disruptor and innovator in the music industry, changing the way that audio is shared, distributed and consumed.
The Read’s decision to team up with the audio company was a no-brainer in helping them helm this game-changing comedy album.
“Working with Benoni, Issa and the Raedio team was a natural decision because we have been immense mutual supporters for our entire digital careers,” The Read said. “A comedy album is new territory for us, but Raedio has been instrumental in helping us develop the vision for this project and collaborating with them has been exciting and such a joy. We’re excited to break new ground and give our fans new ways to tune in and engage with us.”
The Read’s forthcoming comedy album — which will include an official debut single, full-length track list, artwork and visuals — is planning for a late summer release.
