More allyship in the beauty industry is needed for Black and brown-founded brands who deserve a bigger platform to showcase their work.
Thirteen Lune — a first-of-its-kind e-commerce platform — is setting out to create that space for these founders in a way that resonates with their consumers and also creates more financial gains for these brands.
According to a press release, Thirteen Lune was launched to create an experience for consumers that allows them to discover beauty brands founded by Black and Brown entrepreneurs.
As stated on the platform’s website, Thirteen Lune is considered the world’s first fully inclusive beauty platform that redefines how Black and Brown beauty brands are viewed from a consumer and industry standpoint.
The purpose of the platform is to give each beauty brand a space to both educate and engage a wider audience.
Thirteen Lune was co-founded by Nyakio Grieco — founder of nyakio™️ Beauty — and Patrick Herning — founder and CEO of plus size-inclusive e-commerce brand, 11 Honoré — as a vehicle for authentic allyship in the retail industry.

“The next iteration of beauty retail involves authentic allyship,” Herning said in a statement. “Thirteen Lune is a retail platform that is redefining inclusive beauty and speaking to all audiences to invite allyship in its truest form.”
As leaders of this diverse platform, they’ve committed to working toward progress on behalf of these beauty and wellness brands while also creating financial parity for those that are catering to Black and Brown communities.
“I love being a beauty founder and am committed to helping other Black and Brown beauty founders realize success,” Grieco said in a press statement. “Over the last 18 years I have faced challenges as well as gained valuable experiences that allow me to give these founders the support they deserve and on a bigger stage.”
Thirteen Lune’s inclusive platform is reportedly built upon three key pillars: products by Black and Brown for people of all colors, products made for Black and Brown people, and ally Brands.
The platform kicked off its launch with 13 innovative brands — including Afro Pick, Beija Flor Naturals, Buttah Skin, Bomba Curls, Charlotte Mensah, Dehiya Beauty, Gilded Body, HyperSkin, Lauren Napier Beauty, Liha Beauty, Marie Hunter Beauty, Skot Beaute, and The Established.
Thirteen Lune acts as a storytelling platform that honors both the heritage and history of Black and Brown cultures around the world.
“There is so much talent that is not being recognized at the level that it needs to be,” Grieco concluded in her statement. “This is an opportunity to elevate these founders and to address the much bigger issue of alleviating systemic racism by building generational wealth in our communities. Change won’t happen unless we work in tandem to achieve this goal.”
By amplifying the voices behind each brand and their respective missions, Thirteen Lune has become the ideal model to display diversity and inclusion in beauty and wellness.
