Aylah Birks is an extraordinary Georgia high school senior.

Black News reports the native of Twiggs, Georgia is making headlines today because she’s been awarded $2.2 million in scholarships from more than 80 colleges.

Birks has a 4.0 GPA, is a finalist for the Gates Scholarship, and even wrote a book about her personal experiences.

But life hasn’t always been easy for the Georgia high school senior. Throughout school, she said she was bullied relentlessly by her classmates — but while this certainly troubled her, she said it also inspired her to become an anti-bullying advocate, as well.

The Georgia high school senior also said that she couldn’t participate in extra-curricular activities like she wanted to, because her mother — who Birks said is “her inspiration” — had to care for a sick grandparent.

“I especially could not participate in as many extracurricular activities as I would like to, but I still maintained that grasp in school, and my mother couldn’t be as present as she is now in my extracurricular activities because she was so busy supporting him and I completely understand,” Aylah Birks said to 11Alive News.

While the Georgia high school senior has received more than $2.2 million in scholarship offers and so many acceptance letters, she said that she’s narrowed her choices down to two schools: Clemson, and Mercer.

Whatever she decides, we know that Aylah Birks has a bright future ahead of her, and congratulations are in order for what she’s accomplished so far!
