Derrick Rose is truly living up to his name.

The former NBA point guard is hosting a pop-up flower shop in Chicago, IL, on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025. Rose’s Flower Shop will be open for “one day only,” from noon until 4 p.m., according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

“Welcome to Rose’s, the No. 1 flower shop in Chicago. How can I help you?” Rose teased in an Instagram reel announcing his venture. “A dozen roses? Coming right up. … We’re open for business. We can do that. We got you. It’s on the house. We appreciate your business.”

Rose, a Chicago native, began his NBA career with the Bulls, where he was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 Draft. He made history as the youngest MVP in NBA history, winning the award in 2011 at 22 and 6 months old, the Commercial Appeal reported.

While Rose is giving the community their flowers in the city where it all started, the Bulls are honoring him in return.

The Bulls shared in a news release that the team will celebrate Rose, “one of the most iconic players in franchise history,” during Derrick Rose Night as they host the New York Knicks at the United Center on Jan. 4.

The event will commemorate Rose’s retirement from the NBA, his remarkable career, and significant contributions to the Bulls and Chicago.

Players from both teams will wear themed shooting shirts with “1.4.25” on the front. The numbers represent both the date of the game and the jersey numbers Rose wore during his time with the Bulls, Knicks, and Simeon Career Academy in high school, according to the release.

Throughout the game, memorable moments will be held to honor Rose, his family, and his former Bulls teammates, with many expected to attend.

When the gates open on Jan. 4, the Bulls will launch the Derrick Rose Atrium Experience, an installation showcasing memorabilia from Rose’s career, including items highlighting his career milestones, personal keepsakes, and iconic shoe line. An 8-foot-by-8-foot mosaic in the shape of Rose’s logo, created using photos from his career and life, will also be on display.

Fans can leave personalized messages for Rose in a digital guestbook as well and take photos with a hologram of his likeness.

They will also be able to take home a memorable themed item and receive a commemorative T-shirt. While supplies last, they can collect one of 5,000 commemorative roses from a flower cart in the atrium and purchase exclusive themed retail items, including T-shirts, hoodies, souvenir cups, and cookies.

Having retired before the start of the 2024-25 season, Rose ended his NBA journey after one season with the Memphis Grizzlies. However, he is still considered a prominent figure in the NBA world and has achieved significant wealth, AFROTECH™ previously reported.

Despite the impact of his health outcomes on his career and a series of minimum contracts after leaving the Bulls, Rose earned $167.73 million during his time in the NBA.

The basketball icon is part-owner of Giordano’s Pizzeria, a well-known establishment in Chicago. He also signed with Wilson Sporting Goods, Skullcandy headphones, Powerade, and Nissan over the years.

In addition, his investment in Wesley Eden’s FlyQuest helped the esports company secure funding to continue developing the brand. Eden noted that Rose’s investment helped the company perform at a high level, according to AFROTECH™.

Rose has managed to maintain strong partnerships with his endorsers; however, retiring impacted his adidas deal, cutting it short by two years. Altogether, his endorsements earned him nearly $13 million.

Rose is a philanthropist as well, with his efforts including the launch of the now-defunct Rose Scholars program, which provided scholarships to underserved, high-performing students aspiring to pursue higher education at any college or university in America.

He has also supported the Chicago-based nonprofit After School Matters and the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy, which both target disadvantaged youth by providing them with educational opportunities, per AFROTECH™.
