According to reports, the Buffalo Bills have decided to honor the NFL contract of safety Damar Hamlin.

The world was shocked when Hamlin collapsed on the football field during a game against the Bengals with less than six minutes on the clock.

At the time, Hamlin’s fate was unclear but the days following have shown promise of what appears to be a miracle when it was revealed he was “neurologically intact” and showing “remarkable improvement.”

On Jan. 7, Hamlin’s breathing tube was removed at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and he was in communication with his teammates by Friday.

Then, on Jan. 8, it had been reported that the Buffalo Bills would still pay his full salary under his four-year $3.64 million contract.

“Bills S Damar Hamlin’s 4-year, $3.64M contract contains a standard split to pay him at a lower rate if he lands on Injured Reserve. This week, he was placed on IR. However, sources say Buffalo has worked out an agreement with the NFL and NFLPA to pay him in full,” sportswriter Ian Rapoport wrote on Twitter.

As AfroTech previously told you, Hamlin’s jersey is the most-purchased on Fanatics, and proceeds will be donated to his foundation, Chasing M’s.

“Damar still has the most purchased jersey among all athletes across all sports on Fanatics since Monday night,” a spokesperson for Fanatics said, according to reports.

In addition, over $8 million has been raised through a GoFundMe account created to support the foundation as well.

“This fundraiser was initially established to support a toy drive for Damar’s community, sponsored by the Chasing M’s Foundation,” a message from the campaign read. “However, it has received renewed support in light of Damar’s current battle and we can’t thank all of you enough. Your generosity and compassion mean the world to us.”

“Putting love into the world comes back 3xs as much… thankful for everyone who has reached out and prayed. This will make me stronger on the road to recovery, keep praying for me,” Hamlin wrote on Twitter.

In addition, The Buffalo Bills also shared an update via Twitter on Hamlin’s wellbeing.

How to Describe Owning a Small Business On a Resume

Owning a small business is an achievement that demonstrates initiative, leadership, and problem-solving—skills that employers highly value. However, many entrepreneurs struggle with how to present their business experience on a resume when transitioning back to a traditional job. Some worry that hiring managers won’t see small business ownership as relevant, while others fear their resume won’t align with corporate job descriptions. The key is to position your business experience strategically by showcasing transferable skills, aligning responsibilities with the job you’re applying for, and addressing potential employer concerns. When done correctly, it can set you apart as a candidate who is resourceful, adaptable, and capable of taking ownership of major responsibilities. Why Listing Business Ownership On A Resume Matters Many jobseekers hesitate to include their small business experience on a resume, but leaving it off can be a mistake. Running a business requires skills that...

Do Billionaires Pay Taxes? The Loopholes That Let The Ultra-Rich Pay Less

Billionaires have long found ways to minimize their tax burdens, using loopholes and financial strategies that allow them to pay far less percentage-wise than everyday Americans. While many assume the ultra-wealthy contribute significantly to the nation’s tax revenue, the reality is that their effective tax rates — what they pay relative to their total wealth — are far lower than those of middle-class and working-class individuals. Their methods to shield their fortunes are legal, yet they contribute to widening economic inequality and an ever-growing fiscal deficit. The disparity between billionaire and working-class tax rates was highlighted in a live chat hosted by The Washington Post. Journalist Jeff Stein responded to a user asking about billionaires paying their fair share in taxes. He pointed out that while billionaires pay large sums in taxes, their effective tax rate remains much lower than that of the average American. He explained that one key reason is the ability of...

Montana Over Miami? The Retirement Plot Twist No One Saw Coming

For generations, the idea of retirement was wrapped in images of palm trees, golf courses, and pastel-colored condos lining the Florida coast. But for today’s retirees, those images are changing. The decision of where to retire is no longer just about sunshine and tax incentives; it’s about affordability, quality of life, and long-term stability. Instead of heading south, many retirees are opting for places like the Midwest, trading palm trees for pine forests, ocean waves for mountain peaks, and high insurance rates for financial security. And this shift isn’t random. For decades, Florida has been synonymous with retirement. The Sunshine State’s warm climate, tax advantages, and retirement-friendly communities made it the ultimate destination for older Americans. However, recent trends suggest that the tides are turning. A new study from Mirador Living, titled “Retirement Expectations vs. Reality: Factors that Impact Retirement Decisions,” reveals a surprising shift in where...

It is widely known that Black individuals have to work ten times harder just to see half the success of their white counterparts. She reveals that while being managed at Carter Agency, which is led by Josh Popkin, she was misled about her earnings from brand deals. “The head of Carter Agency, Josh Popkin, this is what he would do. He would tell you that the brand deal was $2,000. It was actually $10,000,” she explained in a TikTok video. “He would take that $8,000, then take the 20% fee off of the $2,000. And guess what? He was targeting Black women mainly. When we all found out and...

Raleigh, NC -based St. Augustine University (SAU) has lost its appeal for accreditation and will enter a 90-day arbitration process. According to WTVD-11, SAU has been on probation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) for two years. In December 2023, the SACSCOC Board of Trustees voted to remove SAU from membership due to financial and governance issues. After a successful appeal, it was reinstated in July 2024 and remained effective through the end of the year. However, on Thursday, March 6, 2025, the Historically Black College and University announced that the appeal to keep its accreditation had ultimately been denied, per WDTV-11. Georgia Tech Dissolves Several Groups For Marginalized Students To Comply With Federal Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion Laws

Atlanta, GA -based Georgia Tech University has joined the list of institutions adapting to federal laws surrounding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives nationwide. On Feb. 26, 2025, the Georgia Tech Pride Alliance announced that the LGBTQIA+ Resource Center (LRC), the Women’s Resource Center, and the Black Culture, Innovation, and Technology Center would be dissolved and integrated into the Arts, Belonging, and Community Department, according to Rough Draft Atlanta. “We’ve known this was a possibility for years,” GT Pride Alliance said on Instagram. “These centers are losing the ability to distinguish and market themselves as what they are — a resource for marginalized groups. Other DEI programs are already undergoing similar restructuring across campus, but it is unclear when those changes will be fully announced.”   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by GT Pride Alliance (@gtpridealliance) According to Georgia Tech, the Arts, Belonging, and Community...

Corporate Executive Justin Grant Wants To See Black Executives Sponsor More Black Talent Amid DEI Pushbacks

Corporate Executive Justin Grant wants to see more Black executives sponsor people within their community. Sponsorship allows an individual in a higher position than you to advocate for you in rooms with the goal of helping your career reach new heights, unlike mentorship , which typically is intended for skill building and obtaining more knowledge. “You want your boss’s peers in other departments to know who you are and to be in your network and to be folks that will, when your name comes up, when they’re deciding who to promote or who to give the bigger bonus to. ‘Yeah, I know that person. I vouch for them.’ So I think that’s the distinction,” Grant said on the “Black Tech Green Money” podcast hosted by AFROTECH™ Brand Manager Will Lucas. Grant credits three white individuals for serving as executive sponsors throughout his career and speaks to an alarming trend that he witnessed that has prompted a call to action. He notes that Black executives have been less inclined to open...

President Donald Trump Lays Off Over 1,300 Department Of Education Workers

President Donald Trump has laid off various staffers working at the Department of Education. As AFROTECH™ previously reported, President Trump had interest in dismantling the department. This would greatly reduce its role in the country’s education, which includes managing $1.6 trillion in federal student loan programs, overseeing K-12 school grants, and implementing civil rights law for federally funded schools. “This is an assault on every young American who went to public school like me,” Ro Khanna, U.S. representative from California’s 17th congressional district, said during a February news conference in San Jose, CA. “This is an assault on every American family who has someone who is disabled and needs the IDEA (The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) program to provide education. This is an assault on every neighborhood in America that has a public school that gets Title 1 funding.” He continued, “This is an assault on every child who gets school lunches in America....

Trump Claims He’s Buying A Tesla As A Sign Of Solidarity To Elon Musk, But Where’s The Receipt?

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, while much of the country slept, President Donald Trump made yet another grand declaration. It was reminiscent of his past bold claims—Mexico paying for the wall, immediate healthcare overhauls, the return of American manufacturing—statements that electrified his base but often failed to materialize in the real world. This time, the promise was more personal. “I’m going to buy a brand new Tesla tomorrow morning as a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American,” Trump announced, as reported by CNBC. And yet, as the day unfolded, there were no White House photo ops, no congratulatory X posts from Musk, and no sign of a freshly delivered Tesla in the presidential motorcade. What initially seemed like an act of economic defiance against Tesla’s plunging stock price quickly revealed itself as something else entirely—another carefully staged performance in the political theater that now defines the Trump-Musk alliance....

Issa Rae Believes 'Diversity Needs A Better Publicist' And That 'Anti-DEI' Rhetoric Is The Result Of 'A Big Misunderstanding And A Fear'

Issa Rae is applauding those who are upholding DEI efforts. During SXSW 2025 in Austin, TX, the actress, producer, and newest part-owner of San Diego FC participated in a keynote conversation where she shared her thoughts on the evolving diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) landscape, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A racial awakening occurred in 2020 following the death of George Floyd due to police brutality. This led to an influx of support and a record-breaking $4.3 billion in venture capital and corporate investments towards Black-owned businesses, per ABC News, as well as a 55% increase in DEI roles created, notes NBC News. As time has gone on, many of these bold commitments around DEI have faded out. This has only worsened due to pressures from conservative groups challenging such efforts in litigation, with some success. Legal wins for the right have included the dismantling of Fearless Fund’s Strivers Grant program, which awarded Black woman-owned businesses, and the...

The fully leased property was secured in a $10 million deal . This investment came on the heels of Flo Rida’s legal victory against Celsius over a breach of contract, which resulted in an $82.6 million award, per CBS News. “You might own a house and things like that, but growing up just looking at highrises and things like that, the first thing is not to think that you can own it,” Flo Rida told the Miami Herald. “Maybe you have a spot there, but you won’t really own it. So to actually own our own plaza is just phenomenal.” The plaza is home to several businesses, including Cloverleaf Beauty Supply, Creole Kitchen, Boost Mobile, Top Notch Cigars & Smoke Shop, and Flowers by Grace, a staple for three decades...
