R&B artist Bryson Tiller has released more details about the video game he’s creating.

In an interview on the “Super Retro” podcast, the artist revealed that he rekindled his interest in gaming during the COVID-19 pandemic. He picked up a controller and played “Apex Legends” for “a scary amount” of time. That inspired him to start developing his own video game. He decided to be strategic as an artist to make it a reality.

“It’s time for me to get back in the studio. I got to make something shake. And the way I was looking at it was like, ‘OK, you know what? Everything that I do from here on is going to pay for this game,'” he said on the podcast.

“I’ve dropped three albums since then. I’ve dropped a mixtape, I’ve dropped a Christmas album, I’ve been on four tours since then. I’ve been funding this game ever since 2020. It all started from my iPad,” he added.

Trapsoul Games

Tiller has also studied game design for the past six years and, as AFROTECH™ previously reported, launched Trapsoul Games, which gets its name from the genre of music he created and his debut album, “Trapsoul.” The company was co-founded with Vin Bogart and Elijah Steen and is supported by a team of developers from across the globe.

Brutal Industry

In a full-circle moment, the Grammy-nominated artist revealed to “Super Retro” that his first game is called “Brutal Industry.” He described it as a beat-’em-up game about the brutality of the music industry. Tiller is heavily involved beyond game design, contributing to everything from the soundtrack to voice acting.

Tiller plans to release it exclusively on Arcade1Up’s retro arcade cabinets and wants it available in music and rehearsal studios and at venues.

“I want it to be something that feels like you got to be in front of it to play,” he told the podcast.

He added that he would eventually like the game to be available on mobile devices and across all platforms.

According to Trapsoul Games’ website, it will be released in 2027.
