Electronic Arts (EA) announced that Cliffhanger Games, its new triple-A development studio, is joining forces with Marvel Games to create “an original, third-person, single-player Black Panther game,” according to a news release.

“We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game,” Kevin Stephens, studio head of Cliffhanger Games, said in a statement. “Wakanda is a rich superhero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do.”

He added, “It’s an incredibly rare opportunity to build a new team around the values of diversity, collaboration, and empowerment.”

The news release discloses that Cliffhanger Games has onboarded leaders from innovative games such as “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor” and veterans from “Halo Infinite,” “God of War,” “Call of Duty” and more. Among the talent is Curtis Baxter, who shared on LinkedIn that he will be working as the senior writer for the “Black Panther” game.

While the game is in early development, a release date and further details have yet to be announced. However, over the next few years, Cliffhanger Games is on the search for diverse voices and perspectives to join in its mission to bring Wakanda’s technology and heroic Black characters to the video gaming space.

“We want our game to enable players to feel what it’s like to be worthy of the Black Panther mantle in unique, story-driven ways, and we want Cliffhanger Games to empower everyone on our team as we collaborate to bring this amazing world to life,” Stephens expressed.
