Being in the right place at the right time paid off for Jade C. Williams.

Williams, a product leader, says the technology sector found her. A proud Howard University alumna with a bachelor’s degree in economics, she originally aspired to become a business owner and CEO. However, her career took an unexpected turn when Deloitte, a consulting firm, reached out to her. In 2014, she joined the company as a business technology analyst and, within two years, earned a promotion to product management consultant.

“That was my first exposure into tech and I did more tech advisory work on the business side for Deloitte. So that was the entry point to me for me doing product management and product advisory work across like Fortune 100 companies in the federal government,” she said during an interview with AFROTECH™.

Williams earned two additional promotions before leaving after six years.

Her following job opportunities would result from attending and being present at the AFROTECH™ Conference. In August 2020, she worked at Capital One as a product manager for a brief period. By March 2022, she transitioned to VidMob as a senior Product manager. There, she led AI-powered solutions designed to deliver favorable results for top consumer brands, as highlighted on her LinkedIn profile. This included creating Diversity Measurement Tools powered by machine learning and computer vision.

“I met one of the co-founders at AFROTECH™, and then he recruited me, I joined, and I led that product,” she explained.

Williams led the division’s strategy and oversaw the development of the product, which was also supported by a team of data scientists, engineers, and UX designers. The tool was designed to help brands gather insights and assess demographic representation.

“It will take all of your advertising content across all social digital platforms, run it through like these models and all this AI magic and using computer vision to understand what percentage of your ad content includes a specific skin tones or specific ages and genders,” she explained. “So it produces an output or report for these users so that they can understand where they stand today in terms of meeting their diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and highlights opportunities for where they like need to move forward.”

She added, “The power is it does it like at scale so that you can connect different regions, different markets, different industries, different social, digital platforms and kind of make that assessment across all your advertising content, which is big for these global brands.”

Although Williams is no longer at VidMob, her focus moving forward is using AI to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Looking ahead, she plans to launch the digital platform AI Girl in Q1 2025. It will empower communities with short-form content on new updates and trends within the sector.
