Actor and community activist Jesse Williams has become the latest investor to join Greenwood’s financial empowerment efforts.
Greenwood — the new digital banking platform for Black and Latinx entrepreneurs and small businesses — recently launched to help repair the hole in Atlanta’s finance market with the help of rapper Killer Mike, former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young, and Bounce TV founder Ryan Glover.
Williams has now signed on to help the digital bank carry out its mission to strengthen the economy for communities of color.
“I’m excited to join the Greenwood team and work to advance economic prosperity for people of color,” he said in a statement. “The time has come for Black and Latinx communities in America to strengthen our economic condition and influence. By increasing access to essential banking services and financial education, Greenwood is a key part of that movement.”

Williams is most known for his role on long-running ABC series “Grey’s Anatomy.” Additionally, he also has been an active humanitarian who has gotten involved with multiple organizations focused on racial justice.
Just a month after its launch, Greenwood has enlisted 200,000 people to join its community and the waiting list for the platform. It’s considered one of the most successful launches in the history of the financial services industry, and with Williams’ financial backing it hopes to continue moving upward.
“Jesse Williams has long been a voice for equality and opportunity,” said Glover in a press statement. “We are thrilled to have the chance to work with him. He is a perfect fit for the mission of Greenwood.”
In addition to being an investor, Williams has helped co-produce a series of videos about financial empowerment featuring a nearly all-Black cast and crew as well as a number of Black and Latinx-led businesses and entrepreneurs.
