Entrepreneur Daymond John says, by choice, he isn’t a billionaire.

The founder behind FUBU, which has earned more than $6 billion in lifetime revenue, is also a “Shark Tank” investor. He told the “BigDeal by Codie Sanchez” podcast that he receives lucrative business offers often. He highlighted one deal with a bank that reportedly works with the world’s top 1,000 companies. The bank offered him a $1.3 billion credit line and said that, given his credibility, track record, and funding, he would be in a strong position to acquire businesses and compete for lucrative contracts.

Recounting the conversation with the bank, he said they told him, “‘I’ll put a merger and acquisition person over there with you… They have these initiatives for minority vending. Everybody will respect the fact that you’re a minority vendor because of your history and you’re on TV. We will give you the money. We want you to acquire like in a hotel, we want you to acquire a rug company, a lighting company, a furniture company. We want to then put you into bid for this stuff … I guarantee you, Daymond, you probably will make an average of whatever whatever.'”

John reflected on what the journey ahead would look like if he moved forward with the offer. He considered the fact it would be a 20-year commitment, which would likely mean managing a team of 20,000 people. He considered the seven or eight homes he already owned, which his friends enjoyed more than he did. He also considered his daughter, who was 9 years old at the time of the 2025 interview. Ultimately, these considerations led him to reject the bank’s offer.

“I already missed my 31- and my 26-year-old growing up because I was so busy working. Why would I do that? No … Why would I do that?” John said on the podcast. “So somebody could see me on a yacht. I can rent that yacht and give it right back to the owner and let that be their d-mn problem. Why are you doing it? Why do you not know your wife or your husband? Are you going out making sure that a lot of people see you that can’t stand you? But why are you doing it? Know your why.”

He continued, “But if you’re waking up every day because you’re solving a problem for a person, you’re bringing them joy and you love it, then you do that.”
