Finding the perfect Christmas gift during the holiday season can be difficult, but it can be comparably easier than finding a Black Santa. That’s why Hampton University alum Jihan Woods is launching an app to help families locate Black Santas in their areas.

A medical doctor by trade, Woods got the idea for the company in 2017 after trying to find a Black Santa for her twin boy near her home in Dallas.

” I got tired of spending hours online finding a Santa that looks like me and my sons,” Woods said.

Find Black Santa works like a directory and lets users find and contact Black Santas for-hire in their areas. The app also lets users find and route to community events, mall and Santa photo- opps. Users can submit the names of Black Santas and related events to Woods via email or social media to have them added to the app.

Find Black Santa users can also write event reviews within the app.

Woods created a KickStarter campaign to help fund Find Black Santa, which needs $4,750 to solidify its launch. The campaign raised $795 on its first day.

“So far, it’s a one-woman show,” Woods said. She plans to grow Find Black Santa by offering merchandise after the app is launched.

Find Black Santa will be available on iOS and Android.

UPDATE: When we covered this story in November, Woods was still trying to meet her Kickstarter goal of $4,750. She exceeded her goal and Find Black Santa is now on Google Play and will be available on IOS.
