From viral meme videos to political influence, TikTok has been a trending topic for months. And now, fans of The Weeknd will open the popular social app for a history-making performance.
In partnership with virtual entertainment company Wave, TikTok will host the Canadian crooner for its first-ever virtual reality concert, “The Weeknd Experience.” Set to perform songs from his latest album, “After Hours,” the Weeknd will be displayed as a digital avatar, with whom fans will be able to interact with him live during the show, says The Verge.
“#TheWeekndEXP will gather everyone from all walks of life to create legendary memories through a combination of featured hashtag challenges, creative effects, and a must-see experience,” the release said.
In addition, TikTok will raise money for The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), a non-profit organization committed to “ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States.”
NME reports that fans can purchase exclusive merchandise or donate to the cause before and during the show via TikTok. All proceeds will go to EJI and TikTok will match the amount.
“First time experience,” the “Blinding Lights” singer tweeted to announce the event. “Enjoy and also support the Equal Justice Initiative for racial equality on the Tiktok app.”
