Angela F. Williams Makes History As First Woman And African American To Be Named CEO Of United Way Worldwide

Black women are making history on a daily basis. In a press release, United Way Worldwide announced on Sept. 9 that Angela F. Williams will be the organization’s next president and CEO — making Williams both the first woman and first African American to hold the lead position. “I am absolutely honored to join the world’s leading charity at a key moment in the organization’s history and world events,” Williams said in a press release. “Around the world, issues of health, education and economic sustainability are at the forefront of ensuring equality and access to a good quality of life. I recognize and appreciate the tremendous role that United Way Worldwide plays in supporting individuals and families and transforming communities.” Although a new role will soon be in effect for Williams, she already has expertise in leadership under her belt as she is currently the president and CEO of Easterseals.
