If there was ever a renaissance man of entertainment, Jamie Foxx would get our vote. The Grammy award-winning musician and actor is set to be the leading voice in Disney and Pixar’s new movie, “Soul.” According to CNN, this will be Pixar’s first-ever Black-led animated movie in its 21 movie catalog.

The trailer gives us a glimpse into the overall storyline of “Soul,” which follows middle school band teacher, Joe Gardner, on his quest to fulfill his life’s purpose, jazz.

“I think Joe is having that crisis that all artists have,” director, Kemp Powers, said, according to The Walt Disney Company. “He’s increasingly feeling like his lifelong dream of being a jazz musician is not going to pan out and he’s asking himself ‘Why am I here? What am I meant to be doing?’ Joe personifies those questions.”

Gardner falls into a manhole where he is transformed into a soul and begins his journey of self-realization and discovery.

The Disney and Pixar production — which also includes Tina Fey, Phylicia Rashad, Daveed Diggs, and Ahmir Questlove Thompson– is set to release in theaters on June 19, 2020.
