In the midst of social justice protests around the world, many companies are stepping up to the plate and doing their part in supporting those who are fighting to end police brutality against Black people. One such company is SheaMoisture.

According to Black Enterprise, the personal hair and skincare manufacturer announced it will launch its Social Justice Coalition Fund by providing $20,000 to five activists in order to support their social justice efforts.

SheaMoisture CEO, Cara Sabin, expressed the fund’s mission in a statement released by the company.

“Reinvesting in our own communities has always been our driving force. Now more than ever, it’s imperative for us to commit resources toward driving progress and address the traumas and injustices we face,” said Sabin.

She continued, “We are having the hard conversations, while also ensuring that our community knows we are creating a safe space and a platform to drive change. SheaMoisture will continue to amplify the voices of our community at a time when they want to be heard, seen, and more importantly, valued.”

According to Black Enterprise, potential activism categories include mental health, legal services, voting initiatives, and training and education for mobilizing political action groups. More information will be released once the categories are finalized and the company will name recipients within the next 30 days.

SheaMoisture also held an Instagram Live event entitled “Let’s Talk,” in the wake of the murder of George Floyd to discuss solution-based approaches that will create change.

The event was hosted by journalist Jeff Johnson and featured Angela Rye, attorney Tanya Miller, community activist Tiffany Loften, and Dr. Thema Bryant-Davis.
