Twitter App Security Glitch Could Spell Trouble for Android Users

Twitter recently announced a potential security threat for Android users. An app vulnerability may give hackers backdoor access to otherwise secure account information , such as direct messages, protected tweets, or location details. In addition, such access could allow hackers to take over a user’s account, sending messages on the user’s behalf. Twitter affirmed that there was no proof of hacking, but sought to reassure Android users in a statement posted on its blog, which read, in part: “We have taken steps to fix this issue and are directly notifying people who could have been exposed to this vulnerability either through the Twitter app or by email with specific instructions to keep them safe .” To avoid any possible security issues, Twitter recommends that Android users download the latest version of the app, or use Twitter.com until they are able to do so.  iPhone users were not affected by the security glitch.
