Seasoned Hollywood animator, producer, and director Leo Sullivan — together with his wife, Ethelyn O. Stewart — have committed their lives toward educating Black families. Recently the couple received Rev. Jesse Jackson’s Legacy Award for their outstanding achievement for their contributions in media, Black News previously reported.

For the last 60 years, the couple has created entertaining interactive content for over 500,000 Black families to become informed through Leo Sullivan Multimedia, as per the company website. Its sister companies include AfroKids.TV, AfroKids.com, and TheAfroKidsFamily.com.AfroKids.com, and TheAfroKidsFamily.com. The mission of the multimedia outlet is to utilize visual arts to create a new future for children who are searching for a solution to their social and academic challenges.

“Afrokids® is about every child having the opportunity to reach their potential. Sorry to say, the African American child is born into the world with many systemic obstacles already in place to stifle their path to achieving their potential. Afrokids offer a pathway into areas rarely acknowledged in their growth. Every child by the age of five can see the environment that forms their opinions, self-esteem, and who they are as a person. The African American child has even more challenges. That’s why the Afrokids brand with its myriad of media content was developed,” reads the company’s website.

The couple felt compelled to create the kid-centric platform to expose Black children to positive imagery and role models to steward self-perception in a positive light. “Our message is just as relevant today, as it was in the ’60s,” Leo shares. Their kid-friendly platform establishes cultural awareness for children to understand how to navigate through life circumstances and have a greater understanding of the world around them.

As the media conglomerate continues to plant seeds of hope for future generations, they plan to partner with like-minded organizations to push forward future initiatives including the creation of more informative content and learning aids to foster retention for users.
