Black Tech Miami Founders Receive $2.1M Investment to Support Center For Black Innovation

Entrepreneurs Felecia Hatcher and Derick Pearson founded the Black Tech Miami initiative in 2012 with a vision of fostering more opportunities for Black innovators in the city’s startup ecosystem. As a result of their commitment to the cause — developing youth coding initiative Code Fever Miami and Blacktech Week, and expanding Black Girls Code to Miami — their vision has been recently bolstered by a $2.1 million investment that will support the Center for Black Innovation, The Miami Times reports. “We have a long-term goal where we hope to raise more money to create a foundation we believe can last long term,” said Pearson. Venture Cafe Miami Receives $1 Million From Knight Foundation

This month, the Knight Foundation — an organization that provides funding to diversity programs and initiatives — announced it is giving $1 million to Venture Cafe Miami. The investment is dedicated to helping Venture Cafe Miami expand its geographic reach, increase entrepreneurs access to capital and investors and execute initiatives that encourage diversity. Venture Cafe Miami is a nonprofit organization focused on diversifying Miami’s startup and entrepreneurial scene.
