America's Only Solo-Founded Black Telehealth Company Is Helping Communities of Color Get Proper Medical Care

Though the concept of telehealth became wildly popular amid the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual health services have been around for years to give patients easy access to their healthcare providers online. While these services are available to all, patients in Black and communities of color still struggle to get the proper medical care they need without leaving their homes. According to a study conducted by the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association last year, their data showed that Black people were more likely to self-report telehealth use in response to the pandemic than white people. However, the systemic racism that exists within the healthcare system still makes it difficult for Black and people of color to acquire telehealth tools. Dr. Margaret Towolawi Left Her Job To Start The First Black-Owned Direct Primary Care Practice In Washington

Medical physicians have been overworked more than ever this past year, and Dr. Margaret Towolawi took matters into her own hands when the burnout became too real. Dr. Towolawi is a board certified family physician who has been practicing for over a decade in the Seattle area. She cares for children and adults through a variety of services including women’s health , gender affirming care and chronic disease management. Michael Jordan Donates $10M to Open Additional Medical Clinics in His Hometown

NBA legend, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Michael Jordan is giving back in a big way to further help his hometown of Wilmington, NC improve its healthcare system. According to a press release, Jordan has donated a generous $10 million to regional healthcare system Novant Health to aid in building two new medical clinics set to open in early 2022. The purpose of these clinics will be to serve both uninsured or underinsured residents of New Hanover County.
