Google Launches Career Readiness Program To Train 10,000 Formerly Incarcerated People In Digital Skills

Google is preparing formerly incarcerated people to re-enter the workforce with its latest initiative. In the spirit of Second Chance Month, the tech giant has launched its Grow with Google Career Readiness for Reentry program, which aims to provide free digital skills and job readiness training to 10,000 individuals who have previously been imprisoned. According to a press release reviewed by AfroTech, the new program was created in partnership with five nonprofit organizations that have all successfully developed and delivered premium job training to returning citizens — including The Last Mile, Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO), Defy Ventures, Fortune Society and The Ladies of Hope Ministries. Fundamental digital skills that the training program will focus on include how to apply for jobs online, creating a resume, entrepreneurship and business budgeting. Google Announces Pledge to Train 100K Black Women in Digital Skills By 2022

Google continues to build up its pipeline of Black talent with its latest ambitious initiative. Last week, Grow With Google announced that it has established a new initiative to offer digital skills training to 100,000 Black women. This pledge to upskill Black job seekers is part of Google’s $15 million initiative announced back in June. Their goal now is to have these Black women ready to take on the tech industry by Spring 2022. According to a blog post shared by Google’s Chief Diversity Officer, Melonie Parker, this new initiative is also in partnership with six Black women-led organizations — including The Links, Inc., Dress for Success and four sororities of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Grow With Google Goes Virtual to Help Job Seekers Aquire News Skills for Free

Since the start of statewide shutdowns for COVID-19, over 700,000 jobs have been lost forcing millions of Americans to file for unemployment, according to Black Enterprise . The shutdowns have forced small businesses to close leaving many entrepreneurs without a source of income. As business-owners and other job seekers pivot to new ventures to stay afloat during this time, Google has launched a new virtual platform to make this transition smoother. This week, Google unveiled its newly launched online program Grow with Google OnAir , an in-person program that originally launched in 2017, to allow job seekers to learn new skills in the digital space. “Though we’re no longer able to gather in person, that doesn’t mean the learning has to stop.
