Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Otvös Says COVID Deaths Helped Sales 'Quite Massively'

The CEO of Rolls-Royce has disclosed some interesting facts about his cars’ sales in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. And according to Business Insider, it’s all about the money for him — and others. “Quite a lot of people witnessed people in their community dying from Covid, that makes them think life can be short, and you’d better live now than postpone it to a later date,” Torsten Müller-Otvös said. “That also has helped [Rolls-Royce sales] quite massively.” To wit, Rolls-Royce sold nearly 6,000 cars in 2021, a record for the luxury car manufacturer. The most popular model for purchase was the so-called “Ghost” model, which has been named in countless Hip-Hop songs and featured in numerous films and television shows. And the car itself is not the only luxury item to see a spike in sales. According to the same report, sales of luxury items, in general, have spiked dramatically in the wake of the pandemic — and that number is only going to increase as time goes on. “The crisis...

HP to Launch New Virtual Development Experience Targeting HBCU Students

Class of 2020 graduates have found themselves in a peculiar time navigating our new normal. From canceled graduations and proms to adjusting to remote learning online, students are at a great disadvantage during this time. Many graduates are faced with the reality of an uncertain economy with a scarcity of internships and job opportunities. According to a new report published by Glassdoor, 1 in 2 U.S. internship openings on Glassdoor have been closed since the coronavirus crisis began resulting in over four million jobs being lost. To assist students and graduates during this transition period, HP announced that it plans to launch a new virtual development experience targeting HBCU students, Black Enterprise reports. HP Summer Scholars , a free virtual development series to help university students with business and professional skills, will launch this summer and run from June 15–July 24. The program plans to help students with the following: Learn how a global business operates...

Black Moms-Turned-Entrepreneurs Launch a Relief Fund to Support Other Mom-Owned Businesses

Black-owned nonprofit, Moms As Entrepreneurs (MAE), is making this Mother’s Day special despite the pandemic. The Baltimore-based incubator announced the launch of its Moms Give Community Fund — via Instagram — to help support and aid mom-owned businesses during the outbreak. The fast-growing organization is headed by two mom entrepreneurs — Dr. Tammira Lucas and Jasmine Simms — who are passionate about providing the necessary tools for moms to thrive in business, especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Experts estimate that up to 90% of businesses owned by women and people of color have been, or will likely be, shut out of the Federal Paycheck Protection Program. We understand the disparities that moms, especially moms of color, are dealing with as they continue to maintain their businesses during COVID-19,” Lucas told Black Enterprise. With federal COVID-19 relief funds going to established businesses, the founders of MAE took matters into their own hands and stepped up to...
